SRINAGAR: Indian forces have intensified cordon and search operations and house raids across Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), arresting at least 3,000 innocent Kashmiri youth in a massive crackdown across the Kashmir Valley.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian troops and police have stepped up raids, search operations and restrictions in several areas, including Islamabad, Shopian, Kulgam, Pulwama, Srinagar, Ganderbal, Baramulla, Budgam, Sopore, Kupwara, Bandipora, Awantipora, Handwara and other parts of the occupied territory. During the sweeping crackdown, at least 3,000 Kashmiri youth were taken into custody.
Media reports said the highest number of arrests was recorded in Shopian district, while around 700 people were detained in Srinagar alone. The detained youth have been subjected to sustained interrogation at multiple detention centers.
The occupation authorities have further tightened restrictions across the Kashmir Valley by deploying additional troops at sensitive locations, establishing more checkpoints and erecting extra barricades. Indian forces have intensified frisking and searches of vehicles, passengers and pedestrians at various places.
Senior Indian police officials confirmed the detention of at least 3,000 youth, saying that the ongoing campaign of raids, restrictions and arrests would continue.
The latest crackdown followed Wednesday’s attack in Islamabad town in which an Indian police constable was killed. Following the incident, Indian forces launched large-scale raids and intensified repressive measures against civilians across the occupied territory.
