LAHORE: An Animal Welfare Center for the well-being of working animals and a school for the children of their owners have been inaugurated in Thokar Niaz Baig, Lahore.
The project has been launched under a Community Development Program in collaboration with BROOKE Pakistan, an internationally active animal welfare organization, and the local social organization “GODH.”
The chief guest at the inauguration ceremony was Brooke Pakistan Head of Program Dr, Mannu Chahar and advocacy manger Syed Miqdad Mehdi. Upon his arrival, he was warmly welcomed by GODH Director Nazir Ghazi, Dr, Imran Kabir and members of the staff, who presented him with a bouquet.
It was stated on the occasion that around 2,000 families, including those living in approximately 300 households in the Thokar Niaz Baig area, are associated with keeping equine animals such as horses, donkeys and mules. BROOKE and GODH are taking various initiatives to improve the health and welfare of these animals and support the well-being of their owners’ families.
Brooke Pakistan Head of Program Dr, Mannu Chahar met with families who keep equine animals and learned about the challenges they face.
He later visited various sections of the newly established school and received a briefing on the quality of education being provided.
Dr. Mannu Chahar also met with children seeking admission to the school and interacted with them. Under the project, special focus is being placed on providing modern and quality educational facilities to the children of equine owners.
